Pride in Mann nominee Anne Dowds is not only the treasurer for the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group but is also a tireless supporter of the charity and a great friend.

AnneThat’s the view of Julie Stokes who nominated her friend and work colleague who, she said, had supported her during her own time of need.

When the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group was set up in 2012, Julie said Anne offered to be the group’s treasurer and has worked tirelessly for it ever since: ‘She has a full-time job and a family but spends most of her ‘day off’ running round for the charity.

Mainly I look after the finances and collect the collecting boxes from around the island and sell things like badges and wrist bands and raffle tickets. So we can be here there and everywhere sometimes – running around like a lunatic. I had to count all the money we raised at the carnival earlier in the year and then bank it but I don’t mind because it is for such a worthy cause. I enjoy doing it and it has helped to get us where we are today.   As a charity we have to make sure all the accounts are put in at the end of each month and every penny is accounted for. When this all started, none of us realised how far we would get so quickly, so it is very rewarding.

Pride in Mann is an awards scheme sponsored by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company.
